GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Makayla Timpson had 22 points and 13 rebounds for her school record 16th double-double of the season and sixth-seeded Florida State opened a 20-point halftime lead and cruised to a 70-53 win over 14th-seeded Wake Forest in the second round of the ACC Tournament on Thursday night.

The Seminoles were 21 of 25 at the foul line and the Demon Deacons were 4 of 9, a big reason Florida State moved on to a Friday night quarterfinal against No. 20 Syracuse, the third seed.

Ta’Niya Latson added 19 points for the Seminoles (22-9), who beat Wake Forest by 12 and 8 points in the regular season. O’Maria Gordon added 12 points. Timpson was 8 of 9 from the foul line, Latson 6 of 8 and Gordon 5 of 5. Timpson also had two blocks, putting her just one behind Jacinta Monroe’s single-season record of 84.

Alexandria Scruggs scored 14 points to lead the Demon Deacons (7-25). Elise Williams had 12 points and Kaia Harrison 11. Williams had 25 points in the opener, when Wake Forest rallied in the fourth quarter to edge Virginia, but shot 4 of 18 in this one.

Timpson had 16 points and the Seminoles raced to a 37-17 halftime lead despite shooting just 33%. The Demon Deacons shot just 24%, going 1 of 13 from 3-point range. And while Wake Forest was 0 for 2 from the foul line, behind Timpson, FSU was 13 of 14.

Timpson scored the first four points of the game and contributed five points in a 13-2 run that helped the Seminoles take a 19-9 lead after one quarter.

The teams were a combined 1 of 10 behind the arc and 9 of 36 overall in the second quarter when FSU outscored Wake Forest 18-8.

The Demon Deacons made 3 of 4 from long range in the third quarter and doubled their score but only shaved one point off their deficit. The Seminoles took a 53-34 lead into the fourth quarter.
