Ubisoft Toronto co-founder Alexandre Parizeau will be the head of Amazon Montreal, the megacorp’s new game studio that recently set up shop in the French Canadian province.
Parizeau exited Ubisoft back in February of 2021, stating that he was stepping down to “focus on personal priorities.” Parizeau was in charge of Ubisoft Toronto when reports began to emerge that Maxime Béland, one of his fellow co-founders, had been accused multiple times of sexually harassing and physically abusing employees.
No similar accusations appear to be orbiting Parizeau (several sources apparently spoke very highly of him to Kotaku), but many of the broader accusations about the studio’s allegedly toxic workplace culture did occur during his tenure as managing director, which began in 2014.
At Amazon Montreal, Parizeau will be leading a team developing a brand-new AAA multiplayer shooter. Amazon leadership credited Parizeau’s history at Ubisoft as part of their motivation for hiring him, and gave exceptional praise for his work in building “talented teams.”
Parizeau will be overseeing several former Ubisofters at the studio, including Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege veterans Luc Bouchard, Xavier Marquis, Alexandre Remy, and Romain Rimokh.
